Yesterday I read Cory Doctorow’s apocalyptic novella, When Sysadmins Ruled the Earth, which was hyped quite a bit on Boing Boing etc but I had no interest in reading until I saw it was included in an anthology of apocalyptic SF. As you may know, I love apocalyptic fiction of all kinds.
I very rarely abandon books as I’m reading them, and I had every intention of finishing Thirteen, but then I got Charlie Stross’ sequel to the outstanding The Atrocity Archives, The Jennifer Morgue.
I made good on my threat to read Thirteen. It came in the mail yesterday, and I’ve gone through the first 80 pages or so.
This month is Robert Heinlein’s 100th birthday, and in honor of the man who’s written the only pre-1980 sci-fi books I’ve ever loved, here’s my favorite Heinlein quote:
Neil Stephenson is one of my favorite sci-fi authors.
I’ve just learned via InstaPundit that Richard Morgan has another book out, titled Thirteen in the US and Black Man in the UK.
