Continuing my [battle w/ IT professional societies](/acm_so_gets_the_web), I've decided to finally join the IEEE Computer Society. They have ACM to thank. As it turns out, "IEEE Computer Society":http://www.computer.org/ are better than ACM in terms of web presence, however their enrollment app still sucks. It sets the no-cache HTTP header, which means Back after you submit a form doesn't retain the information you enter. This would be fine, except the form where you pick a username is the same as the form where you enter a credit card, so as you guess which username is available, you're re-entering credit card info as well.

Today I finally got around to renewing my "ACM(Association of Computing Machinery)":http://www.acm.org/ membership. I have a bad habit of letting it lapse for a few months between renewals, primarily because I almost never use the digial library and both their primary mags, CACM(Communications of the ACM) and Queue, offer the CS equivalent of _Vanity Fair_ in terms of substance.
